cube mass

Made from nothing but the default cube in Blender. I simply made a mass of cubes in the centre of the work space using the same approach that I always use – a ‘roughly even scattering’. Then I hollowed out the structure and in the following videos I spend some time surveying the piece. The audio is also created using the same structure. This facilitates an automatic correspondence between the visuals and the audio.

Each room or separate area is like a different aspect of psyche. Each of the fly-throughs are like journeying through the inner world, one room leading to the next – one quality to the next. The artistic presence, character, quality, mood, and personality that each different ‘room’ acquires during this process serves as an expression of the character and quality of the aspect of psyche that it possesses. By exercising aesthetic practice using this generated structure as the medium, I am ascribing meaning to the architecture, thereby giving each aspect of psyche an artistic quality and presence. Each aspect of psyche as an artwork expressed through virtual architecture, audio, and motion. One area is a bit like a laboratory, another like a living room, another like a ballroom, and so on.

squelch

Over the course of developing cube mass a side project emerged called ‘squelch’.
